Sewing Goals & Life Updates!
Welcome Fashionistas!
Come on in, grab your favorite beverage and let’s catch up on what’s been happening! So much has been happening. To be honest, I don’t even know where to begin.
To start with, we moved back to Wisconsin to be close to our family last year and are working on remodeling our home! It has been an adventure I didn’t see in our future. However, it is going to be great once it is done. That is if any home is really ever done, or maybe that’s just any home I live in! This house adventure has awakened sleeping creativity in me that is fun to be exploring at this point in life. Here are a few photos that were taken of before and after with a project I did right after moving in due to getting a new fireplace insert and the fact I am not an overly neat painting. HaHaHaHa. This idea came from Pinterest. The article walked me through getting all of the tools and equipment I would need. So, if you are looking to paint a fireplace check out this article, How to Paint Fireplace Brick White with Primer and Regular Paint by rainandpine.com
So, with packing up one house, showings, and selling, not a lot of sewing or designing happened. However, I hope to change that this year. I have made a few sewing goals for myself. You see, with two extensive crossing state line moves in the last 3 years or so. I have cleaned out my wardrobe a great deal. All that has happened over the previous two years has not given me much time to replace all I got rid of. With that said, now I need to replace a fair amount of items. I have noticed that I wear the same things repeatedly, which is getting rather dull to me.
My goals for this coming year that I will be sharing here are as follows.
1. I will be working on my pattern-making skills and sharing techniques I learn and resources for anyone interested in it. I have several books that I have collected over the years and am excited to dirt into them.
2. I will be working on my tailoring skills. I totally love a fitting blaze and have some. However, they are not really ringing my bells as of late. It could be the fabric or the style; I’m unsure, to be honest. Anyways, I will be working on some new ones and some new tailored trousers. I also collected off of ebay.com last year a few older patterns to try my hand at a tailored dress shirt and trousers for my husband. Ok, they may not work and be wearable by his standards, but I will have at least tried and put it to bed for myself. Here are the patterns if any of you are interested.
3. I will be doing some decorating projects for our new home. I have been thinking about drafting my own pattern for tailored valances for our dining room and library windows, which would have pleats no gathering. I am also throwing around the idea of trying my hand at recovering a chair. It has been on my list for years, and I recently found a book that I checked out of the local library and found fascinating. If that interests you, stay tuned. I will keep you updated.
All in all, I will be taking you on this adventure to restore our new home and expand my skills this year. I would love to hear what goals you have set for your sewing or decorating projects you are embarking on this year in the comments below so that I can cheer you on your journey through making 2022 our best creative year ever! I look forward to hearing your kind thoughts and feedback in the comments below.
Happy sewing!
